Dear Friend,
Earlier this month, our partners Gwoup Konbit and one of their founding members, Les Paradis Haitien, held a 5-day camping retreat for young Haitians called AN N AL KANPE (Let’s Go Camping!). The retreat, held just outside of Port-au-Prince, was attended by the leaders and members of 17 youth-focused organizations, bringing them together to strengthen the ties between organizations and promote cooperation and cohesion. Attendees participated in team building activities, sports, hikes, and workshops to learn more about each other and their respective groups.
The photos speak for themselves—this was a weekend full of learning, activity, and, above all, FUN for young Haitians that need community now more than ever.
Roots of Development is working to build a global community of support for locally led development from the ground up; one that includes everyone from these young leaders in Haiti to our donors and supporters here in the US. That’s why at this year’s Annual DC Event, we’re honoring three groups with our 2024 Commitment to Community Award: Gwoup Konbit, Ayiti Community Trust, and the Movement for Community-led Development. Please join us on September 19th for this special night—time is running out to get tickets, so buy yours now at https://rootsofdevelopment.org/annualevent/.
Sincerely,
Chad Bissonnette
