I’m very excited to share some news with you today: Roots of Development is making a Commitment to Action at the 2026 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting!
CGI is a convening of more than 2,000 leaders in business, government, and civil society that takes place each year during the UN General Assembly in New York City. CGI is focused on creating partnerships and bridging divides to solve the world’s most urgent crises, especially through their signature Commitments to Action—new projects and programs that bring together diverse actors around specific, measurable goals.
We’ll be officially unveiling our Commitment to Action and announcing all the details at CGI in September alongside other organizations that work both in and outside of Haiti. We’re excited to meet the moment and drive action to support Haitian leaders and solutions!
NEW ARTICLE FROM THE FUNDERS COALITION FOR HAITIAN-LED DEVELOPMENT
In March, the Funders Coalition for Haitian-led Development (FCHLD) published an article entitled “Emergency Funding or Entrenched Dependency?” which outlined our response to the $125 million the US government allocated to the United Nations’ Regional Pooled Fund for Haiti, out of a total $2 billion that went to UN Country Based Pooled Funds (CPBFs) around the world.
Now, that funding has been disbursed and the US has pledged another $1.8 billion toward the CBPF infrastructure.
FCHLD’s new article “The Second Tranche: Will Washington Fund Haitian Leadership This Time?” which was published this week, explores in-depth where and to whom the first tranche of funding went and what changes must be made in the second tranche to ensure that local organizations are the primary recipients.
We are proud to be a part of this coalition of funders pushing the aid sector in Haiti and beyond to be more impactful, more efficient, and more respectful.

ConnexUs, a platform powered by peacebuilding organization Search for Common Ground, is hosting Roots of Development for a Thursday Talk webinar on “Redefining Impact: How Local Organizations Build Lasting Change” on September 3rd.
At this 60-minute webinar, participants will hear a presentation of our Funders Framework and be invited to reflect on and share how they see true impact show up in their work, whether as a funder, an intermediary, or an implementer, as well as how the aid industry as a whole can shift to prioritize long-term impact over short-term outputs.

We’re excited to share that we have joined WINGS, a global network of philanthropy support and development organizations across 58 countries.
As an organization committed to shifting the funding landscape around international aid to be more supportive of and conducive to locally led change through research, collective action, and advocacy, Roots is excited to be able to learn from, share with, and tap into this global network.
We will be attending the WINGS Forum in late September to find strategic ways to partner and engage with other actors and strengthen our capacity to influence the way funders fund and resources are directed toward Haiti.
