January 18. 2024
Dear Friend,
Happy New Year! I hope that you and your family are having a healthy, safe start to 2024 and are keeping warm despite the winter weather!
On the island of La Gonave, Haiti, it’s 80° and sunny, and our partner Rasin Devlopman is already taking the year by storm.
Soccer Club Brings Youth Together!
Roots and Rasin started supporting the GOSCA youth soccer club in 2023. The club encourages young people to gather around the sport and cultivate their skills while promoting greater social cohesion in the community.
Did you know? Roots provides our partner Rasin Devlopman with unrestricted
funding as part of our #PrinciplesofPractice. Read why it’s important here.
Young Women Learn to Drive!
The eighth session of Fanm kap Kondwi, motorcycle driving courses for young women, is underway! The first session was spent learning theory and familiarizing the women with the motorcycle. Since 2021, 112 women have learned to drive motorcycles through this program.
Conservation and Storage Builds Food Security in the Long-Term!
Another project, Gad Manje, undertaken in partnership with APPLAG, a local group on the island, is already having an impact! This initiative aims to cultivate food over a longer time period and put in place a conservation system so that the food harvested in the fields can be stored, allowing farmers and their families to have more food for longer.
