Giving Tuesday

Our Ask

You may sometimes feel that there isn’t much you as an individual can do to contribute to the fight against global poverty.
The truth is, with Roots of Development, that couldn’t be further from reality.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re showing you just how far every dollar you donate goes toward impacting lives in our partner communities in Haiti.

All donations up to $5,000 to the Volonte Pou Chanjman Leadership Development Program will be matched 1:1 thanks to a generous donation from Mark & Jamie Summers of Vernon, CT.

Volonte pou Chanjman Leadership Development Program

Amount Raised = $4,789

$5,000 is enough to pay for 45 community leaders (Volonte pou Chanjman) on La Gonave to strengthen their skills and knowledge in community development, project management, conflict resolution, environmental protection, and more through four workshops and trainings throughout 2024. If we reach our goal of $5,000, with the matching gift, we will have enough to not only pay for a year’s worth of trainings, but enough to support the Volonte pou Chanjman’s community improvement projects, which allow them to practice their skills and make a substantial impact in their areas!

All donations up to $500 to women’s empowerment workshops will be MATCHED 6:1 thanks to a generous donation from Ken & Susie Campbell of Washington, DC.

Women’s Empowerment Workshops

Amount Raised = $515

$15/participant

$500 is enough for one women’s empowerment workshop, providing training in women’s rights, health, economic development, and other key topics, strengthening networks of strong women throughout the island of La Gonave. Our partner conducts SEVEN women’s empowerment workshops per year, reaching 175 women. If we reach our goal of $500, with the 6x matching gift, we will have enough to pay for all SEVEN workshops next year!

All donations up to $1,000 to the Ankadre Youth Summer Program will be MATCHED 1:1 thanks to a generous donation from Susan Manning of Davidson, NC.

Ankadre Youth Summer Program

Amount Raised = $1,110

$50/participant

$1,000 is enough to pay for 20 at-risk adolescents to attend our Ankadre summer program on La Gonave, where they receive vocational training and education on civic engagement, helping them to become Haiti’s future business and community leaders. If we reach our goal of $1,000, we’ll have enough to not only pay for all 20 adolescents to attend the program, but also to pay for 6 sessions of “Reyaji” community dialogues, which bring together community members on important topics.

All donations up to $2,000 to the women’s motorcycle courses will be MATCHED 2:1 thanks to generous donations from Nick Weissmueller & Valentine Quadrat of Redwood City, CA, and Chris & Wally Lamb of Storrs, CT.

Women’s Motorcycle Courses

Amount Raised = $2,008

$130/participant

$2,000 is enough to pay for 15 women to participate in a three-month motorcycle training course, teaching them to drive and boosting their independence, economic opportunity, and self-esteem. If we reach our goal of $2,000, with the 2x matching gift, we will have enough to pay for all THREE motorcycle courses next year!

Our Goal

If we raised $20,000, we would have enough to pay for:

175

women to attend women’s empowerment workshops that are designed by and for women in Haiti.

45

Volonte pou Chanjman community leaders to receive four leadership training workshops.

20

adolescents to participate in the Ankadre youth summer civic engagement program.

45

women to learn to drive a motorcycle through three-month courses

So whether you give $10, $100, or $1,000 this Giving Tuesday, know that you’re making an impact on the lives of our partner communities in Haiti.

Help us fight for a development that is more

sustainable and respectful.
